Our Gurus

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879 – 1950)

Bhagavan has shown the direct path of Self-inquiry.  He remained at the foot of the holy Aruachala Hill in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India since the age of 16 until he left his body in 1950.   His main means of teaching was the radiation of peace and silence to the seekers who would feel the transmission of bliss and clarity in his presence.  His presence is still being experienced at Sri Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India, and continuously attracts seekers from all over the world.

Yogacharya Dr. Raparthi Rama Rao (1921-2014)

As a sincere devotee from childhood, Guruji practised ascetic, traditional and devotional methods to attain realization until he met his guru who guided him through traditional yoga practices.  He lived as a householder maintaining a family and working as a school teacher (later as a college principal) until his retirement from his profession in 1978.  From 1979, he fully dedicated himself to propagation of traditional yoga on the direction of his guru through Yoga Consciousness Trust in India.

Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati

Swamiji established Bihar Yoga Bharati, the first university of yoga, in 1994 and the Yoga Publications Trust in 2000 in Munger.  He is the spiritual successor of  Swami Satyananda (who is a disciple of Swami Sivananda) and the author of many books on yoga which are widely used as text books for traditional yoga studies.
